Forklift Operator / Production Worker – Battery Recycling Plant
(4 On, 4 Off Roster)
Let’s be straight about this one.
This job isn’t for everyone.
The roster runs 2 day shifts, 2 night shifts, then 4 days off, and it keeps rolling like that. That means nights and weekends are part of the deal.
If that lifestyle sounds like a nightmare to you, that’s completely fair… but this probably isn’t the job for you.
For the right person though, it can be a bloody good setup.
Pay is fantastic – $33.38 up to $66.76 per hour depending on the shift.
You work two day shifts, two night shifts, then you’re off for four days straight. Plenty of the crew love it because once you’re on your break, you’ve actually got time to do something with it.
And the other thing worth knowing is this isn’t just another forklift job where you move pallets for the next 20 years.
The company running this battery recycling facility in Wagga are big on promoting from within. If you show up, work hard and show a bit of interest, they’re more than happy to teach you different parts of the plant.
We’ve seen people start in this role and move into different areas of the operation, leading hand roles and even supervision over time.
So think of this as a foot in the door, not just another job.
The Basics Roster-
2 day shifts, 2 night shifts, then 4 days off (rotating roster).
Hours:
6am to 6pm or 6pm to 6am
Uniform & PPE
All supplied and laundered daily
Extras:
Onsite showers so you don’t have to take the day’s mess home with you
What You’ll Be Doing You’ll split your time between operating the forklift and helping on the recycling line.
The forklift side involves unloading trucks and feeding materials into the processing line.
The rest of the job involves manual work like unwrapping pallets and placing batteries onto conveyors ready for processing.
Some of the batteries can weigh up to 40kg, so you’ll need to be comfortable getting stuck in and doing a bit of lifting as well.
It’s pretty straightforward work, but like most good production environments everyone has their role and the place runs like clockwork.
Safety Is Serious Here You’ll be working in full PPE, including a respirator, full coverage overalls, steel cap boots and a hard hat, so you’ll need to be clean-shaven.
Safety here isn’t just something written on a poster in the lunchroom. It’s taken seriously.
You’ll also need to pass a pre-employment medical and ongoing monthly blood tests as part of the site’s safety procedures.
What They’re Looking For You’ll need:
• A current Forklift Licence (this one’s non-negotiable)
• To be comfortable working the rotating 2 days / 2 nights / 4 off roster
• A solid work ethic and someone who actually turns up when they’re rostered
• The ability to work safely in a structured environment
• To be comfortable with both forklift work and manual labour
This role suits someone who likes routine, clear expectations and getting paid properly for the effort they put in.
If you’re the type who shows up, gets stuck in and doesn’t mind a bit of hard work, you’ll fit in just fine.
What’s In It For You
• Up to $66.76 per hour on certain shifts
• Four days off every roster cycle
• All PPE supplied and laundered daily
• Onsite showers
• A stable workplace with supervisors who’ve done the job themselves
• Real opportunities to learn other parts of the plant and move into bigger roles over time.
Sound Like Your Sort Of Setup? If you’re a licensed forklift operator looking for solid pay, a clear roster and a job that could actually turn into something bigger down the track, this one’s worth a look.
